Meet Kristina L. Mayer, Ed. D.

Kristina Mayer has been a program officer since 1996. Employed by the Stuart Foundation, Ms. Mayer concentrates her work on educational issues affecting children and families in California and Washington. Her primary responsibilities in the education portfolio include teacher preparation, public engagement, education leadership and public policy. The Stuart Foundation spends nearly $8 million per year on its education grantmaking objectives.

Before coming to Stuart in February 2000, Ms. Mayer was a program officer at the Washington Mutual Foundation and, prior to that, spent 20 years working in public education as a teacher and principal. She has a B.Ed from Seattle University with honors and a MA.Ed from Gonzaga University with a concentration in curriculum and administration. She is a doctoral graduate at the Fielding Institute of Santa Barbara in the Educational Leadership and Change program.

Ms. Mayer currently serves as a board member for Grantmakers for Education and Philanthropy Northwest where she also serves as development chair. In addition, Ms. Mayer is a member of a giving circle focused on economic development in Nicaragua and a founding member of the Nicaragua 2001 Foundation based in Seattle. She lives in Port Townsend, Washington and enjoys working in her garden, Tai Chi, literature, and travel.
